Itanagar, Oct 7 (ANI): The Nyishi community, the single largest tribe inhabiting five districts of Arunachal Pradesh, today reiterated its demand for immediate resignation of Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin for inadvertently prolonging the impasse over the 'defamatory' remark made by two stories that appeared in two leading English newspapers in the month of May last.

The community, backed by the influential Nyishi Elite Society (NES) and the All Nyishi Students' Union (ANSU), took out a Mega Nyishi Dignity Rally termed as 'Itanagar Angtu', second in the line, this morning in the state capital.

Attended by an overwhelming crowd the rally began from Doimukh and Nyirubjoli and culminated at the I G Park virtually bringing traffic movement to a standstill for most partf the morning hours.

Members of the community from all the five districts - East Kameng, Papum Pare, ower Subansiri, Upper Subansiri and Kurung Kumey - besides hundreds from West Kameng and Assam had gathered in the state capital a day before to join the rally.

Addressing the huge gathering at I G Park, NES President Bengia Tolum claimed that the disparaging remarks in the said reports painted the entire Nyishi community in bad light and will have lethal consequence on the socio-political arena in future if it is not mended immediately.

Tolum expressed exasperation that despite repeated correspondences and cooperation forwarded by NES to the State Government and three consecutive bandh calls by ANSU, the State government has failed to read the pulse of the people.

In its resolution adopted in the rally, the NES pointed that the government has gone defunct with some elected legislators and Ministers camping in New Delhi and some confined inside the Chief Minister's official bungalow at Itanagar.

Condemning the situation and the subsequent lawlessness in the state, the apex socio-cultural body of the community urged the Governor to ensure governance and enforce Rule of Law in the state by way of change in leadership or imposition of President's Rule.

Reiterating its previous stand, the NES also made it clear that Gamlin must resign as the chief minister forthwith to facilitate a sound leadership in the state to find out an honourable solution to the impasse.

In a bid to stress for its demands, the NES-ANSU combine has called a 36-hour shutdown in all the five Nyishi-dominated districts of the state beginning at 5 a.m. on October 12.

As an extreme gesture of lose of faith on the present government, the Nyishi bodies called upon all the ministers and parliamentary secretaries belonging to the tribe to resign from their respective posts.

It also urged all the 14 Nyishi MLAs in the 60 member Legislative Assembly to withdraw support from the Gamlin Government while appealing legislators of other communities to follow suit in solidarity with the Nyishis in their fight for justice against communal defamation.

The following resolutions were adopted amidst thunderous applause and slogans in this Mega Nyishi Dignity Rally'2011-Itanagar Angtu (Itanagar Chalo):
