Advani condoles veteran Congressman Vasant Sathe's demise

Gurgaon, Sep 24 (ANI): Condoling the death of veteran parliamentarian Vasant Sathe,

 

senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K Advani on Saturday described him as a gentleman politician, who used to do what he felt right.

 

Talking to reporters here, Advani said: "I have not seen such a political leader. I had a close relation with him, despite he being in another party. He was never influenced by his party."

 

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said Sathe had his own style of dealing with politics

 

"I'm saddened by Sathe's death. He had a great impact on politics. He had has his own ideals. He never used to hesitate in expressing his views," Javadekar added.

 

Born on March 5, 1925, at Nashik in Maharashtra, Sathe took active part in the freedom movement and removed the British flag and unfurled the tricolour at the district court in Nagpur during the Quit India Movement.

 

Sathe made his debut in the Lok Sabha from Akola in 1972 and later represented Wardha constituency from 1980 to 1991.

 

Sathe was the deputy leader of the Congress Parliamentary Party during his second term in Parliament from 1977-79.

 

He handled various portfolios but is known for his untiring efforts to introduce colour television in the country for the 1982 Asian Games during his tenure as minister of Information and Broadcasting. (ANI)
