Kurseong (West Bengal), Sep.10 (ANI): Forest Rangers and game wardens of the Mahananda Wildlife Division aided by veterinarians rescued and treated an injured wild elephant in West Bengal's Kurseong area on Friday.
The elephant, probably abandoned by a herd to which it belonged, was suffering from multiple injuries.
Game wardens attributed the injuries to a fight that it must have had with other elephants in the herd.
The elephant had suffered severe injuries in its legs, neck and various body parts including the head, which would have caused immense pain.
Uma Sankar Sen, Veterinary Sergeant of Mahananda Wildlife Division, said they have given the elephant the best available treatment.
He hoped the elephant would recover soon although apprehensions still remained about internal injuries.
"The elephant was sauntering here and there in the forest with an injury in different parts of the body for the last couple of days. We tried to treat it before as well but we did not succeed. Today we rescued the injured elephant and started treatment in all possible ways to remove ulcer from the wounds. We hope that after today's treatment the elephant will be fine in coming days," said Uma Sankar Sen.
Further he mentioned that the forest rangers would be keeping close vigil on the condition of the injured elephant.
Though, the elephant did not indicate any signs of moving elsewhere, it seemed inclined to remain confined to a single location. (ANI)
