Industrial training institute for women in Nagaland

Dimapur, Aug 29 (ANI): In an effort to empower women in the northeastern region of the country, the government has initiated many skill development programs and vocational training initiatives to ensure that women in the region can continue to take firm and steady steps towards a better future.

 

Currently, women in Dimapur are taking lessons on different vocational skills at the Women's Industrial Training Institute here.

 

This institute at Kushiabil was constructed at a cost of Rs 50 lakhs and accommodates 23 students. The women here are being trained in different trades at this institute. They include electronics mechanics, stenography, secretarial practice, computer operations and Programming Assistant (COPA), knitting, and hair and skin care.

 

"The Institute came into existence through a Public Private Partnership in the year 2010. Directorate General of Employment and Training, Government of India came out with a new scheme recently whereby they invited industries bodies to come together and partner with Government in managing and running the ITI's," said Aotshi, Chairman, Women ITI

 

"We are doing our best to promote the ITI through advertisements. We recently conducted a fashion show also, in which the students designed and stitched the clothes by themselves," said Imchen Ao, Principal, Women ITI.

 

"I took up this institute because here we are getting the opportunity to have our own career and it is a great opportunity for every one of us," Sophia, a student.

 

"At present there are 23 students who are pursuing this fashion designing. I see good potential among these students and I can see that they have a bright future for them in fashion industry," Thenie, a faculty member.

 

Nagaland government has promised financial support of Rs 40-50 lakhs for upgrading the institute.

 

A number of efforts are being made to make women self-sufficient and promote entrepreneurship among them.

 

The government is also promoting various micro finance cooperative societies and self help groups in the region to empower women in the region. (ANI)
