Gurgaon , Sun, 28 Aug 2011 ANI

Gurgaon, Aug 28 (ANI): India's top cardiologist Dr. Naresh Trehan, who closely monitored Anna Hazare during his fast for a strong and effective Lokpal Bill, today said the 74-year-old social activist is very dehydrated and exhausted.

Talking to reporters here, Dr. Trehan said his (Anna) heart rate was above the normal and he had been administered fluid slowly in form of coconut water and honey.

"The vital signs of his (Hazare) body such as blood pressure is 120/70, his heart rate is 94 which is more than normal of about 80. He is very dehydrated and exhausted. He has been administered fluid slowly and we are beginning with coconut water and honey. We will slowly increase the intake so that his body can tolerate it," he added.

He further said it would take two to three days for Hazare to recover completely.

"We test full-fledged tests then only I can tell you (media) about recovery process (of Hazare's health). It will take two to three days to recover completely and then he could be discharged," added Dr. Trehan.

After securing Parliament's nod on key elements of Jan Lokpal bill, Hazare broke his over 288 hour-long fast declaring that electoral reforms will be next on his agenda.

Hazare broke his fast at 10.20 a.m. by taking coconut water mixed with honey offered by two little girls.

The 74-year-old social activist was driven straight to Medanta Medicity run by India's top cardiologist Dr Naresh Trehan, who was attending to him along with his team during his entire period of fast.

The latest developments came after both the Houses of Parliament on Saturday agreed in principle with Hazare"s three key demands.

Both Houses of Parliament adopted a resolution on the sense of house accepting key demands of Hazare on citizen charter, lower bureaucracy to be under the ambit of Lokpal and establishment of state lokayuktas and power of lokpal to penalise grievance redressal mechanism violators. (ANI)
