Khurshid says Government wants collaborative, cooperative resolution on Lokpal

New Delhi, Fri, 26 Aug 2011 ANI

New Delhi, Aug 26 (ANI): Union Law and Justice Minister Salman Khurshid on Friday said the government wants a collaborative, cooperative resolution on Lokpal Bill in the House.

"We are not unhappy. We want collaborative, cooperative resolution in the House. The whole House must be party to it. Anyone who works towards that will not make anyone unhappy," Khurshid told mediapersons here today, when asked whether the government was unhappy with Team Anna meeting the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders.

Khurshid informed that he was going to meet Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee to decide on the future course of action over the Lokpal Bill impasse.

"Right now, I don't have any news. I am going to meet Pranabji and after the meeting whatever will be the news I will tell you," he said.

When asked about the three points placed before the government by Anna Hazare, Khurshid said: "There was a direct contact between Anna Hazare and Vilasrao Deshmukh (Union Science and Technology Minister). I don't think we should comment on whatever has been arrived at an understanding between Anna Hazare and Vilasrao Deshmukh."

"I have no news beyond that. If there is any development, I will tell you," he added.

Hazare earlier on Thursday reiterated that he will end his fast only if there is a consensus on the three issues raised by civil society.

He placed three conditions before the government, which is inclusion of lower bureaucracy in the Lokpal bill, appointment of Lokayuktas in all states, and implementation of citizen's charter for time bound disposal of public grievances in government offices.

Hazare has been on fast since August 16, the day he was arrested and taken to Tihar Jail. He was released the same day, but he refused to leave Tihar Jail. He shifted to Ramlila Ground here on August 19 where he has been continuing with his fast. (ANI)
