Kathmandu, Aug 21 (ANI): Nepali caretaker Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal has requested President Ram Baran Yadav to extend time frame for parties to form a government.
President Yadav had earlier given a five-day deadline to parties to form a national unity government. The deadline expires today.
"Although formal and informal talks among the political parties are underway, no significant progress is made in forming a national unity government," The Kathmandu Post had quoted Minister for Prime Minister's Office Affairs Ghanshyam Bhusal, as saying.
"Therefore, the government has made up its mind to demand four to five extra days to form the national unity government," he added.
According to Bhusal, Khanal urged Yadav to give his government more time, as the ongoing talks among parties had not yet arrived at a consensus, Xinhua reports.
Yadav also requested Khanal to bridge differences among the parties and arrive at a consensus regarding prime ministerial candidate.
Khanal had resigned on Aug 14 under pressure from opposition parties and a section of his Communist Party Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist party leaders. (ANI)
