Iranian students to take on oppressive regime through water gun fights

Tehran, Sat, 06 Aug 2011 ANI

Tehran, August 6(ANI): Iranian students have resorted to water gun fights to protest against Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's oppressive regime.

The large-scale water fight organized by students at Abo Atash Park in Tehran had led to a crackdown by the authorities and culminated in several arrests.

However, the students, unfazed by regime threats, are once again geared to take on the regime by organizing another water fight on September 2.

Facebook event 'Tehran's Water Gun Fight' has been instrumental in spreading the word of protest.

An Iran Solidarity movement activist Milani has aided the creation of an English version of the Water Gun Fight Facebook page to link and unite the rest of the world to Tehran.

"It's been a while that we haven't heard any news from the people of Iran, but the young people are showing they world that they want change, and they want to challenge the regime," Fox News quoted Milani, as saying.

Over 15,000 people have "liked" the original Facebook page in Persian and many have actively used the page to connect to other participants by posting comments, pictures, videos and links.

Tehran water-fight has also sparked similar protests in Babol, Isfahan, Tabriz and Karaj.

Facebook had been earlier instrumental in sparking off Iran's youth movement since the post-election uprisings in 2009.

Should another water- fight takes on the regime this weekend, the consequences are expected to be even more serious as Muslims do not indulge in bodily pleasures such as in the ongoing Ramadan month. (ANI)
