CAG report slams Delhi govt. for CWG overspending

The Comptroller and Accountant General of India (CAG) has indicted Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and civic bodies MCD, NDMC and PWD in its report for spending irregularities in last year held Common Wealth Games (CWG).

The CAG that is investigating the financial burglary in last October ended CWG, has also slammed the Prime Minister Office (PMO) for appointing Suresh Kalmadi as Organising Committee Chairman of the CWG, who is currently facing the corruption charges. His case is under CBI investigation.

The CAG reports is yet to be tabled in the Parliament, which leaked reports are roaming in the media.

According the media reports, Delhi CM Dikshit had made eligible 'Space Age' - A firm that had bid for street lighting - was earlier disqualified by PWD. This firm has sold imported luminaries that worth Rs. 32,000 each as against indigenous light that costs only Rs. 15,160 per piece.

There was no reason specified for using the foreign streetlights in the reports, added CAG report.

The total over expenses on streetlights went worth Rs.31.07 crore while Rs. 100-crore were spent extra on street capping.

The CAG report is expected to be tabled in this Monsoon Parliament session. After tabling the report in the Parliament, the Public Accounts Committee will examined this report, Minister of state in the PMO V Narayanasamy informed.
