Iran may resume oil supply to Indian refinery

Tehran , Mon, 01 Aug 2011 ANI

Tehran, Aug 1(ANI): Iran may resume oil supply to an Indian refinery, as it is trying to pay overdue payments for crude oil.

According to Fars News Agency, Indian refiners such as Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals (MRPL) have opened rupee accounts in New Delhi-branch of the Union Bank of India.

The bank will route euro payments to state-owned Turkiye Halk Bankasi (Halkbank) in Istanbul, the report.

MRPL and Essar Oil had last week transferred a small payment to Halkbank to test the conduit.

India and Iran have been struggling to find ways for New Delhi to pay for imports of 400,000 barrels per day. (ANI)
