New Delhi, Tue, 26 Jul 2011 ANI

New Delhi, July 26 (ANI): Defence Minister A.K. Antony led the nation in paying tribute to Kargil martyrs at the Amar Jawan Jyoti here on Tuesday on the occasion of the 12th anniversary of the 1999 Kargil War.

"India will protect its territory, national integrity. At the same time, our policies are designed for this country. So, even if there are problems, we somehow continue our dialogue process," Antony told mediapersons on the occasion.

"Our wish and our hope is that through dialogue and discussion, we will be able to find solutions at least in the long run. So, on one side we continue our dialogue and on the other, we strengthen our national security," he added.

The Chief of Army Staff, General V.K. Singh, along with the other service chiefs also paid homage to the war heroes, who laid down their lives for the country during the armed conflict in Kargil in 1999.

Meanwhile, people all over India would take out candle light marches and also organise felicitations and audio-visual programmes to commemorate the heroism displayed by the soldiers in the Kargil war.

The Kargil was an armed conflict between India and Pakistan that took place between May and July 1999 in Jammu and Kashmir's Kargil District and elsewhere along the Line of Control (LOC).

The conflict is also referred to as Operation Vijay, which was the name of the Indian operation to clear the Kargil sector. (ANI)
