Afghan, NATO forces fire rockets into Pakistan

Islamabad , Fri, 08 Jul 2011 ANI

Islamabad, July 8(ANI): Afghan and NATO-led troops reportedly fired rockets into Pakistan's northwest tribal region of North Waziristan on Friday.

According to Xinhua, around 18 mortar shells landed near a Pakistani checkpost at Ghulam Khan border area.

The incident took place a day after Pakistani, Afghan and NATO military officials met in Peshawar to discuss preventing repeat of cross border firing.

Meanwhile, Pakistan's Foreign Office has blamed militants for the current cross border attacks, saying that there is a common concern on this issue.

"The situation is being created by militants causing loss of human life and damage to property in Pakistan as well as in border regions of Afghanistan," Foreign Office spokesperson Tehmina Janjua said.

Earlier, last month, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai had accused Pakistan of firing 470 rockets into in areas of Kunar and Nangahar provinces, which reportedly killed 36 people, including 12 children. (ANI)
