Mumbai, July 3 (ANI): The Mumbai Crime Branch on Sunday arrested Vinod Chembur for questioning in connection with the murder case of Mid-Day crime reporter Jyotirmoy Dey.

According to reports, the police have booked Chembur, who is apparently a bookie and a close aide of Chhota Rajan.

The crime branch had reportedly questioned Chhota Rajan aide DK Rao in connection with Dey's murder on Saturday.

A Mumbai court had on June 27 remanded the seven people, who were arrested in this case, to police custody till July 4.

Dey was shot dead by unidentified men outside a shopping mall in Powai, a Mumbai suburb on June 11.

The post-mortem report of Dey indicated that he was shot from close range. The report also shows that five bullets hit him, of which, four hit him in the left chest and one was lodged under the right shoulder

Jyotirmoy Dey was India's best-connected writer on the Mumbai underworld. He spent most of his reporting career bringing out accounts of the goings-on in the Mumbai underworld for several newspapers.

He also wrote a book titled 'Zero Dial: The Dangerous World of Informers' and 'Khallas' - considered a dictionary on the Mumbai underworld. (ANI)
