Lakhimpur Kheri (Uttar Pradesh): Asserting that there is no hope for justice in the Mayawati regime, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday criticized the Uttar Pradesh Government over the murder of a minor girl in Lakhimpur District.
"It is shameful that a girl is murdered inside a police station. There is no hope for justice in the Mayawati Government," said Gandhi, who visited the family of the girl raped and murdered in Lakhimpur.
"I support the family's demand for CBI enquiry into her death," he added.
The body of 14-year-old girl Sonam was found hanging inside the Nighasan police station in Lakhimpur District on June 10.
The second autopsy conducted on the minor girl's body, which was found hanging from a tree within the compound of Nighasan police station confirmed that the victim was murdered.
The Uttar Pradesh Government has ordered a CB-CID probe into the case.
The victim's mother in her complaint alleged that the girl was raped and murdered. (ANI)
