India will share 'Samjhauta Express bombings' report with Pak: Nirupama Rao

Islamabad, Fri, 24 Jun 2011 ANI

Islamabad, June 24(ANI): Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao said on Friday that India will share the investigation report of the 2007 Samjhauta Express bombings with Pakistan.

Addressing a joint press conference in Islamabad with her Pakistani counterpart, Salman Bashir, Rao said: "The Samjhauta train blast issue had also formed the subject matter of the discussion between the Home Secretary of India and the Interior Secretary of Pakistan, when they met a few months ago."

"We have stated very clearly that once this investigation is completed, we will share the outcome with the Government of Pakistan," she added.

Earlier, in January, the Pakistan government had asked India to inform it about developments in the investigations into the bombings.

The bombings were a terrorist attack that occurred around midnight on February 18, 2007, on the train service connecting New Delhi and Lahore.

Bombs were set off in two carriages, both filled with passengers, just after the train passed Diwana station near Panipat, 80 kilometres north of New Delhi.

Sixty-eight people were killed in the ensuing fire and dozens more were injured.

Of the 68 fatalities, most were Pakistani civilians. By Smita Prakash (ANI)
