Germany may modify travel advisory to Kashmir tourists

Srinagar , Thu, 23 Jun 2011 ANI

Srinagar, June 23 (ANI): German Ambassador to India Thomas Matussek, who arrived here on a two-day visit, said Germany is keen to revise travel advisory to encourage its citizens to visit the Kashmir Valley.

Talking to reporters here Matussek said: "Yes, it is true that we have a travel advisory, which discourages German tourists from visiting the Valley, and let us see how the next two days play out. If its as normal as peaceful as relaxed at it would be and if the impression of the Home Minister Chidambaram as reported in the media is correct, I would see that we can possibly revise this travel advisory to encourage again German tourists into the Valley."

Matussek further said that the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce would be prompted to send a delegation for setting and execute a couple of successful projects in Kashmir.

"We are already working in Jammu and Ladakh regions of the state but we would like to be involved in business and travel sectors in Kashmir Valley as well," he added.

Matussek further said the situation in the Valley seemed to be normal.

"Kashmir today is as peaceful and beautiful as I saw it when I first visited in 1982-83," he added.

He was all praise for the picturesque beauty of Kashmir Valley and opined that it has a wonderful climate of hospitality that is further supplemented by the beauty of the landscape and colourful culture heritage. (ANI)
