Heavy rain paralyses normal life in Gujarat

Veraval , Sun, 12 Jun 2011 ANI

Veraval (Gujarat), June 12(ANI): Heavy rains for past three days in Saurashtra region of Gujarat led to water logging, traffic jams and other rain related woes on Sunday.

Parts of Veraval, Somnath and Junagarh areas received heavy rain and high velocity winds, uprooting trees and electric poles.

Incessant rain and thunderstorms snapped power supply in Veraval. Roads and markets remained water logged.

Standing crops of cereals, like green gram, black gram and millet, have been damaged, causing huge losses to the farmers.

According to reports, two people have died due to the heavy rains in Junagarh district.

However, heavy rainfall in the region has given respite to people from scorching heat, bringing down the temperature by several notches.

The weatherman has advised fishermen not to venture into the Arabian Sea till rain stops and weather clears. (ANI)
