Nagpur , Fri, 27 May 2011 ANI

Nagpur, May 27 (ANI): In an initiative to aid traffic policemen who are exposed to excessive sunlight, volunteers on Friday distributed bottles of sunscreen lotions free of cost in Nagpur.

Volunteers of an NGO provided 40-50 bottles of sunscreen lotion to traffic policemen across the city.

The volunteers urged the traffic wardens to use sunscreen lotions while performing their duty to keep themselves safe from harmful ultraviolet rays.

"We have realised the need to provide protection to traffic policemen against the harmful rays of the sun. We decided to distribute sunscreen lotions to policemen who are exposed to these radiations standing in the heat all day. We also hope to inform them about the preventive measures they can undertake to save themselves from the scorching heat," said Naresh Agarwal, a volunteer.

While interacting with policemen, volunteers also discussed the benefits of using sunscreen lotion.

"A sunscreen lotion provides protection against harmful Ultraviolet A and B radiations. Both these radiations can severely damage the human skin," said Manisha Agarwal, a doctor.

Medical studies reveal that, over-exposure to ultra-violet radiations tend to blacken the skin leading to sunburn and skin cancer.

Temperatures in Nagpur peaked at 48 degree Celsius this May. (ANI)
