Watson game to shake up Oz batting order

Sydney, Sat, 21 May 2011 ANI

Sydney, May 21 (ANI): In almost two years since he was thrust to the top of the Australian batting order, Shane Watson has made more runs than any Australian and, among the world's batsmen, fewer than only Virender Sehwag, Sachin Tendulkar and Alastair Cook.

Watson still wants to open the batting, but is ready to be shifted anywhere in the order if it helps to prevent Australian propensity for dramatic collapses.

The Australian vice-captain is now on a well deserved break after completing his Indian Premier League duties, and will use the time off to think more about the team's needs.

The Age quoted him as saying: "I do love opening the batting and at the moment my conversations with Michael and with the team hierarchy have been that things won't change."

"But if the best balance for the team is batting a little bit lower, in the end we have to find out what the best combination for our batting order is going to be," Watson added.

He said the aim of the think tank would be to find the right balance.

The Australians will be watching as the Sri Lankans take on England in a Test series under new captain Tillakaratne Dilshan next week, as the Kangaroos are scheduled to take on the Lions in their den in July. (ANI)
