New Delhi , Mon, 16 May 2011 ANI

New Delhi, May 16 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists on Monday blocked traffic in many parts of the capital as part of their protest against the "steepest" petrol price hike.

Activists blocked traffic at Akshardham, Moti Nagar, Khanpur and Hanmdard T-Point on MB Road among other places in the city. JP leaders Vijay Goel, Vijender Gupta and others led protests at various locations.

Gupta said: "Just after the conclusion of election process in five states the UPA Government has imposed a big burden of price spiral on the people.

BJP had yesterday held rallies at five places.

In the biggest-ever price increase of the fuel, state-owned oil companies hiked petrol price by Rs. 5 per litre with effect from Saturday midnight.

The steep hike in petrol price is likely to be followed by a Rs. 4 per litre increase in diesel rates and Rs. 20-25 per cylinder increase in domestic LPG price later this month.

According to reports, petrol in New Delhi now costs Rs. 63.37 per litre at Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) outlets as against Rs. 58.37 a litre. (ANI)
