Devotees visit Amritsar's Golden Temple on Baisakhi

Amritsar, Apr 14 (ANI): Thousands of devotees from across India visited the Golden Temple, the holy shrine of the Sikhs at Amritsar on Thursday on the occasion of Baisakhi celebration.

 

They waited patiently to pay their respects at the shrine, while some took a dig in holy pond to purify themselves.

 

Baisakhi holds special significance for the Sikhs as this day also mark the birth anniversary of the Khalsa Panth or the Sikh order. The tenth spiritual master of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh constitutes the Khalsa Panth on this day in 1699.

 

According to Nanakshahi calendar many of the Sikh organization including Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak committee celebrates the Baisakhi on April 14, which celebrated on April 13 five year back.

 

On this occasion, the Golden Temple has beautifully decorated with fancy electric lights.

 

Shiromani Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (SGPC), Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), American Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (AGPC), Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Parbhandhak Committee (PSGPC) and many more Sikh bodies organized Nagar Kirtan and Kiran Darbar to mark the occasion.
