Shillong, Apr 3 (ANI): For the first time ever, twelve school students recently attended the proceedings of the Meghalaya's legislative assembly to get acquainted with various aspects of the functioning of parliamentary democracy.

Students of St. Anthony's Higher Secondary School were invited to attend a session with the aim of helping them understand how a parliamentary democracy functions.

Later, they also interacted with the State Education Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh and voiced their grievances about the traffic congestion in the city.

Students expressed immense contentment over the opportunity of attending the Assembly Session.

"Before coming here my experience about the functioning of the government was very less. But this experience has given me a lot of learning. Though people sometimes misunderstand the concept of functioning of government but I got to see that our lawmakers take a lot of pain for the betterment of the society, Elnathan.

The students would later submit a report on their observations to the Speaker, and the entire programme would also find a mention in the records of the assembly. (ANI)
