Kolkata, Mon, 21 Jan 2008 NI Wire

The panic ridden villager's from West Bengal are attacking the culling team. In Birbhum district, one of the badly affected areas, the culling has been stalled because of growing resentment and anger in the villagers.

Lack of awareness among the villagers regarding the spread of disease is one of the main reasons other than the compensation which has not been delivered in time though the claim by the central government that the compensation has been disposed off.

Growing resentment and anger of villagers is creating hurdle to carry out the culling programme. It is reported that many of such workers have been beaten by the villagers and hence the operation is hold up by the team who are demanding protection.

Hence a strict vigil has become necessary to check the spread of the disease in the state as well as the neighboring state.

The state government has stocked hospitals with drugs, Tamiflu, while health workers are carrying out the awareness programme to handle the bird and the disease.

In Bankura reportedly a person has died but the reason is yet to be ascertained. While Ananda Haldar, a poultry seller was found near railway track in Malda’s English bazaar his family member said that he committed suicide because of falling demand of poultry in the market.
