Politicians, actors congratulate Team India over WC semi-final win

Mohali, Mar 31 (ANI): Politicians and Bollywood personalities congratulated the Indian cricket team for its semi-final victory over Pakistan in Mohali and entry into the final of the cricket World Cup which will be played on April 2.

 

Former Minister of State for External Affairs Shashi Tharoor and his wife Sunanda Pushkar congratulated the team for winning the crucial match.

 

Tharoor said the victory has boosted the confidence of the team, but it would be difficult to say which team would lift the Cup.

 

"We won the semis with ease, so we should become confident. But as of now, we can't say that which team would win the tournament," he added.

 

Robert Vadra, the son in law of Congress President Sonia Gandhi, said the experience to watching two good teams battle it out for the World Cup was thrilling.

 

"It was really a historical event and match that I think all ours players put their best efforts and full enthusiasm was seen on the field. We were very satisfied with the efforts our players put together as a team to bring a victory for India," said Vadra.

 

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and Telugu Desam Party President N Chandrababu Naidu congratulated the Indian team on its spectacular victory.

 

In a congratulatory message, Reddy said, "It was a well-deserved victory".

 

"As a cricketer, I am thrilled it was a marvellous performance by all key players.

 

India is really proud of you", he added.

 

He hoped the team would maintain the winning streak and win the coveted World Cup.

 

In a separate message, Naidu also congratulated Team India over its stupendous performance.

 

Actor Priyanka Chopra posted on Twitter, "Oh my god! What a show of class Team India! The world cup awaits you in Mumbai! "

 

"Well played Pakistan. You guys are formidable opponents. Be proud of what you've achieved this world cup," she tweeted.

 

India kept the dreams of billions alive after sinking Pakistan by 29 runs in their World Cup semi-final on Wednesday to set up an all-Asian final against Sri Lanka.

 

The 1983 champions posted 260-9 and then returned to bowl out their neighbours for 231 in 49.5 overs to spark jubilant celebrations at the Punjab Cricket Association Stadium. (ANI)
