Puducherry , Mon, 28 Mar 2011 ANI

Puducherry, Mar 28 (ANI): The door-to-door campaign continues to be the trend adopted by leaders of political parties to woo the voters in all the 30 Assembly constituencies in Puducherry.

The nominations of the 374 candidates who have filed their papers for contesting the polls are being scrutinized today.

The Congress-led alliance has locked horns with a front headed by former Chief Minister N. Rangaswamy.

The Congress has entered into an seat sharing arrangement with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi(VCK).

Hard bargaining and reconciliation are paving the way for the formation of two formidable alliances in the union territory.

After allotting 10 seats to its principal ally the DMK, Congress party had to give three seats to the PMK and VCK.

The party will be contesting in 17 seats, one more than it did in the 2006 elections.

Being a small Union Territory with an electorate of just over eight lakh ten thousand voters, candidates rely on direct contacts with the voters.

Puducherry goes to the polls on April 13. (ANI)
