Jammu- Srinagar National Highway reopens

Jammu, Feb.28 (ANI): The Jammu- Srinagar highway, which connects Kashmir with the rest of the country, was reopened today, for vehicular traffic.

 

All the essential supplies to Kashmir are routed through this highway, which had been closed for the past two days following heavy rains and snowfall.

 

The area had also been hit by landslides due to which over 400 vehicles had been stranded on the highway.

 

Revenue, police, health and consumer affairs and Public Distribution Departments have been jointly carrying out relief operation at Jawahar tunnel, Ramban, Banihal Chenani, Kud and Patnitop to assist the stranded passengers.

 

G M Wadoo, traffic police superintendent (rural) said: " The highway has been opened for two-way traffic today but with restrictions."

 

"Vehicles from Srinagar would be allowed to move towards Jammu up to 1 pm by which time these vehicles must cross the Jawahar Tunnel from Jammu, the vehicles will be allowed to move after 1 pm," he added. (ANI)
