Bihar doctors go on strike in protest against firing by MLA's bodyguards

Gaya (Bihar), Mon, 31 Jan 2011 ANI

Gaya (Bihar), Jan 31 (ANI): Doctors and interns of Bihar went on an indefinite strike on Monday in protest against firing on medicos by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Surender Yadav's bodyguards at Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College Hospital in Gaya on Sunday evening.

The security guards of Surender Yadav fired at two doctors of the Anugrah Narain Magadh Medical College Hospital, after a heated argument over the treatment of a patient belonging to Yadav's family.

Shubh Prakash Das, an injured doctor, told reporters on Sunday that the arguments between the junior doctors and Yadav's supporters had heated up, and resulted in an altercation.

"There were some people in emergency whom you can say are anti-social elements. The MLA of this area was interfering in the matter, and that was what we confronted," said Das.

Meanwhile, the enraged doctors torched the police vehicle and went on an indefinite strike, demanding action against Yadav and his security guards.

The police officials, however, said an FIR has been filed against the MLA, and his security guards have been arrested.

Security personnel have been deployed at the hospital premises to avoid further possible vandalism. By Surya Pratap (ANI)
