This year in 2022, Sawan month will begin on July 14 and end on August 12. Sawan or Shravan month is a very auspicious month for the Hindus and this month is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Hindus perform various types of Puja, aanusthan and Somvar varat to please Lord Shiva. Shravan or Sawam month is very important for performing Lord Shiva puja and Rudrabhishek is one of the most powerful puja performed by Hindus in this month. Here you will get to know the dates of the Sawan Somvars and methods of performing Lord Shiva puja.

Sawan is beginning from July 14 and Hundus are geariup to please Lord Shiva in the auspicious month of Sawan or Shravan. This month is also known as Shravan maas and is a very auspicious month for Hindus. The month of Swam is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, devotees pray to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati for their special blessing.

All Mondays and Somwars falling in the month of Sawan are of special importance and considered as auspicious days for fasting and worshipping Lord Shiva along with Goddess Parvati. From the first Monday in the Sawam month many people start  Solah Somwar vrats, while many people just observe fast on Monday during Sawam month. In Hindu mythology Somwar vrats are considered to be very important for pleasing Lord Shiva and getting their blessings.

Sawam month 2022 Dates

First Day of Sawan month is July 14, Thursday

Last Day of Sawan month is  August 12, Friday

 

In the year 2022 Sawan month starts on July 14 and ends on August 12, during these days Hindus will perform special pujas to please Lord Shiva. The Sawan Somwar vrat is the most popular form of puja for Lord Shiva.

Somwar days for fasting during Sawan 2022

Swan month will start on July 14 and end on August 12, during the Sawan month there will be four Mondays. The first first Monday is on July 18 and on this day devotees can start their Somwar fast. 

Here are the list of found Monday in Sawan 2022:

 

First Sawan Somwar Vrat Date is July 18, Monday

Second Sawan Somwar Vrat date is July 25, Monday

Third Sawan Somwar Vrat date is  August 1, Monday

Fourth Sawan Somwar Vrat date August 8, Monday

 

During Sawam Monday’s devotees observe fasts and perform Lord Shiva puja. In the morning most of the devotees go to the Shiva Temple and perform puja there. Many people also observe fast on all Tuesdays or Mangalwar in the Shravan month, these are actually for Goddess Parvati and called Mangal Gauri vrat.

During all Mondays in the Sawan month devotees wake up early in the morning, take bath, wear clean clothes and visit temples to perform puja. Devotees perform special puja during Sawan Somwar vrat and offers water, milk, bilva patra etc. to Lord Shiva.

Devotees offer flowers, sweets, fruits, diya, dhoop and Panchamrit to Lord Shiva. Offering water, milk, bel Patra to the Shivlinga is also a must during the puja.

Devotees also take part in the Kanwar yatras during the Sawan month. In Kanwar yatra devotees take water from river Ganga and then offer it to Shivlinga.

The Somwar vrat is considered a blessing for the unmarried girls. Somwar vrat during the Sawan is very important for unmarried girls, with the effect of this fast she will get a life partner of their choice.

Many married men and women also observe fast in Shravan month or it can also be extended for 16 Mondays for marital bliss.

If you are observing fast on Sawan Somwars then you should follow vrat dos and don’t strictly.

What you should do during somvar vrat:

On the first Monday of Sawan month you should start your varat with a sankalp or pledge for 4 weeks or 16 weeks Somwar vrat. Then start your Somwar vrat on the first monday and perform all the rituals of this vrat.

For your Somwar vrat you should get up early in the morning, clean your home, take bath and then sprinkle gangajal in your house. Then you can proceed with the Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati puja..

You should go to the temple and offer jal and other items to Shivlinga. You should also perform puja in the temple.

During the puja also perform aarti, as it's very important to perform aarti in any puja.

During puja you can offer water, curd, milk, sugar, ghee, honey, panchamrit and other items as per your capacity. Offering raw rice, flower, bel patra and bhang is also necessary. If you are not able to offer so many things due to various reasons you can simply offer water to Shivlinga and it will complete your puja.

If you are observing the fast you can keep it on fruits and milk only. You may even eat vrat ka khana once in the evening but it all depends on what you have decided for your vrat.

During Sawam month you can also perform Rudraabshikem puja with the help of pandits in the temple. This will give you the immense blessing of Lord Shiva.

During vrat you should not do following:

You should not worship Lord Shiva with turmeric, ketki flower and tulsi leaves.

In the month of sawan one should not consume milk.

Don't take garlic, onion, masoor dal and brinjal as they are considered tamsik food.

Don’t take alcohol or any other tamsik foods.
