Soderling crashes out of Australian Open, Murray, Ferrer through to quarters

Melbourne, Mon, 24 Jan 2011 ANI

Melbourne, Jan 24(ANI): World No.4 Robin Soderling crashed out of the Australian Open after being beaten by unseeded Ukrainian Alexandr Dolgopolov on Monday.

Dolgopolov outclassed Soderling, runner-up at the 2009 and 2010 French Opens, in their fourth-round match 1-6, 6-3, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 at Melbourne Park.

"Soderling was playing well and I was just trying to stay in there. I was doing good on the return, so that helped me win the match," the Sydney Morning Herald quoted Dolgopolov, as saying.

"I can't say he played bad or something else. I was just trying to play my game," he added.

Dolgopolov will now face World No.5 Andy Murray in the quarter-final.

Earlier in the day, Murray swept past World No.11 Jurgen Melzer 6-3, 6-1, 6-1 in one hour and 44 minutes.

Murray said that he was feeling good after the easy win, but admitted that the matches are definitely going to get tougher.

"I'm not expecting to go through the tournament-winning matches like that, with that score line," Murray said.

"I'm ready for that mentally when it does get tough," he added.

World No.7 David Ferrer also scored a routine fourth-round win against World No.152 Milos Raonic 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, 6-4.

Ferrer is now likely to face World No.1 Rafael Nadal in the quarter-final. (ANI)
