Due to heavy rainfall in Thailand, thousands of people were affected and some people lost their lives in heavy floods. According to the authorities at least 11 people were killed and one reported missing while thousands of people have been affected by heavy floods.
The Officials said, the heavy rains continued from some days and caused heavy floods in the area in which at least 11 people lost their lives.
According to sources, after days of heavy rain, the central government has sent military units to help regional authorities provide relief to victims. Rescue efforts are underway for residents stranded and cut off from other communities due to the floods.
These floods have become severe in the provinces of Trang and Surat Thani, where many roads remain inundated while the floors of houses and schools are submerged under water. The airport in the province of Nakhon Si Thammarat has been shut down after rivers and canals overflowed due to the rains which have arrived late as the monsoon season usually ends in the region in November or December.
Storms have also affected the north of neighbouring Malaysia, where hundreds of schools have been closed.
According to the Thai Meteorological Department, rainfall will continue in the region until Sunday when it will begin moving towards the Myanmar border.
Earlier, in 2011 Thailand floods killed 815 people and affected 13.6 million people. Over 20,000 square Kilometres of farmland was damaged in Thailand and its sixty-five provinces were declared flood disaster zones among 77 provinces. That disaster has been described as “the worst flooding yet in terms of the amount of water and people affected.
