Every child has Right to Free and Compulsory Education

Taking a big step in the sector of Education, South Delhi Municipal Corporation initiates a Special Campaign "NEEV" for the enrolment of unprivileged children in its schools. This campaign will starts under this Campaign, teachers of our schools will take initiatives for the admission of children in nearby schools and they will also ensure that these children attend school regularly. No document will be required for the admission.

Chairman of Education Committee Mr. Ashish Sood said that as per the census approximately 1.5 lacs children are still not going for the formal system of education, whereas under Right to Education Act (RtE), 2009, every child has Right to Free and Compulsory Education. The Education Department, SDMC with an initiative of the Chairman, Education Committee planned to launch the above stated project named 'Neev'. Under this project those children between age group of 6 to 14 years who are not going to school shall be indentified in the jurisdiction of South Delhi Municipal Corporation by making door to door survey. For this drive, teachers of SDMC schools and volunteers from the NGOs attached with the schools of SDMC will carry this survey and they will carry with them the admission forms for on spot admission of the children nearest to their residence, who are not going to any formal school.

Mr. Sood Said that this survey will be conducted by approximately 5500 schools teachers of SDMC and approximately 300 volunteers from the NGOs from 14/06/2014 to 30/06/2014. The main emphasis of the survey will be for the girl child, the children of the construction workers and Children with Special Needs (CWSN). The emphasis will also be given in the catchment areas like unauthorized colonies, urbanized villages, J.J. Colonies, Slum Areas and Re-settlement Colonies. Apart from the teachers and the volunteers, the local MP’s, MLA’s, Mayor, SDMC, Leader of the House, Leader of the Opposition, Chairman, Standing Committee, Chairman, Education Committee, Municipal Councillors, Commissioner, SDMC and all Senior officers of the SDMC will participate in the said drive.

In spite of the above said survey, if any child could not be contacted then the parents of the child can contact in the office of the Director (Edn.), SDMC at Phone No. 23227331 during the office hours on all working days, the teachers of the nearest Municipal school will contact the parents at their residence and admit the child on the spot.
