Nursery Admission: BJP demands LG to form a monitoring Committee

New Delhi, Sat, 12 Apr 2014 NI Wire

For solving the serious problem of admission in nursery and primary schools, BJP Delhi Pradesh President Dr. Harsh Vardhan has demanded Lt. Governor Najeeb Jung that he should form a high level monitoring committee under his supervision to monitor the admission process in Delhi Schools. This committee should monitor the admission process on day to day basis and submit its report to the Lt. Governor. This report should also be made public through the media so that the Right to Education Act may be properly implemented in Delhi. Dr. Harsh Vardhan has written a letter to the Lt. Governor in this regard.

In his letter, he has written that through an amendment to the Constitution on 4th August, 2009, education of children has been recognized as fundamental right from the 1st April, 2010. Under this law, the children between 6 to 14 years of age must be provided free primary education by the state. In the private managed schools, there should be 25% reservation for the children of poor families. No donation or other illegal charges should be recovered from the children of poor families by the private schools. Till the completion of primary education, name of any child will not be struck off from school register or he/she will be failed. After 60 years of implementation of the Constitution, crores of children have been given the right to free primary education.

It is regrettable and a matter of grave concern that the Right to Education Act has not been implemented in the capital of India. Lakhs of children are being deprived of nursery and primary education due to arbitrariness of the primary schools. This case is so serious that the Supreme Court had to intervene. Admission process has stopped. The parents are apprehensive that their children may be deprived of Right to Education. Those to people who have come from outside states due to transfer or migration are worst affected.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan has requested the Lt. Governor that since he is himself a reputed educationist, he should personally look into this serious problem and should ensure that all the children who want to get nursery and primary education get admission. He should also empower the monitoring committee to to the problem of any parent who comes with his grievance within a fixed time frame.
