46-year-old Philip Seymour Hoffman dies of drug overdose, celebrities mourns his sudden demise

Philip Seymour Hoffman was found dead on Sunday in the bathroom of his New York City apartment in Manhattan. His body was found by Scriptwriter David Katz who called emergency services shortly.

Initial reports suggest that the 46-year-old actor might have died from a drug overdose.

Hoffman was found with a syringe still stuck in his arm and the New York Police Department is investigating the incident, while forensic specialists are trying to determine the exact cause of death.

The actor and director had been drug-free for the past 23 years but started taking pills and sniffing heroin last year.

Mandy Moore said that although she has never met the 'Capote' star, he surely was one of the greatest actors, and her condolences are with his loved ones and all the people who admired his art.

Hoffman's 'Hunger Games' co-star Sam Claflin said that he is genuinely shocked, saddened and speechless by the tragic news, and the 46-year-old actor was a truly wonderful man, with a magical touch and was his hero.

Jennifer Lawrence said that Hoffman was an incredible actor, who was excellent in playing the role of game-maker 'Plutarch Heavensbee', and his death is indeed sad news.

Philip Seymour Hoffman was born July 23, 1967, in Rochester, New York, and rocketed to fame in the 1990s as one of the best character actors in U.S. film.

Hoffman won the Oscar for best male actor for his role as Truman Capote in "Capote" in 2006, and he was nominated for an Academy Award three other times for "Charlie Wilson's War" (2007), "Doubt" (2008) and "The Master" (2012).

Among the other films in which he delivered memorable performances are "Boogie Nights," "Moneyball," "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire" and "Scent of a Woman."
