The Indo-Czech Writer's Meet organized in the World Book Fair

A large number of visitors throng New Delhi World Book Fair Even on the week days, the enthusiasm of the book lovers has not diminished, especially the school children who are not only buying books but are also participating in the events being organized for them. The digitization of the books may have taken place, but the printed books will definitely not die out. National Book Trust, India in association with School of Translation Studies and Training, IGNOU organized seminar on Diversity and Dialogue: Translation among Indian Languages at Seminar Hall, Hall No. 8. The seminar was Prof. Kim Do’young, visiting Korean professor to University; Department of Social Sciences was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. Prof. M Aslam, Vice-Chancellor, IGNOU presided over the function. A Sethumadhavan, Chairman, NBT and Dr. M A Sikandar, Director, NBT were also present on the occasion.

The seminar was divided into three sessions viz. Indian Linguistic Scenario and Culture of Translation, Translating Oral Discourses: An Inter-language Dialogue and Creating New Worlds: Translating Children’s Literature in Indian Languages. The speakers on the occasion were Prof. K. Satchidanandan, Shri Ashok Vajpayee, Prof. Ranjit Kumar Dev Goswami, Prof. Ganesh Devy, Prof. Esther Syein, Ms. Vandana Tete, Dr. Geeta Dharmarajan, Dr. T. Kikuchi and Dr. Divik Ramesh. Sahitya Manch at Hall No. 8 saw many literary events including Indo-Czech Writer’s Meet, Gujarat Se Gujarat Tak and Samanvay Sangat. The Indo-Czech Writer’s Meet was a forum where speakers read out excerpts from their works, shared their views on literature, and opined that literature helps people of different countries to know each other better.

A Sethumadhvan, Chairman, NBT, inaugurated the meet and welcomed the authors from India and Czech Republic. While welcoming he said, "Literature has no barriers and boundaries. Literature always helped countries to forge new relationship and start a new chapter in cultural exchange. Books unite countries and culture." He congratulated Sahitya Akademi for taking such initiatives.

The speakers on the occasion were K Sreenivasarao, Martin Vopenka, Uday Prakash, Sukrita Paul Kumar, Marketa Hejkalova, K Satchidanandan, Sylva Fischerova, H K Kaul, Marta Hochmal, Manorama Jafa, Blanka Skuckova, N K Bhattacharjee and Dr Gujarat Se Gujarat Tak the discussion focused on the issues related to the state of Gujarat. The speakers on the occasion were renowned authors and journalists including Krishna Sobti, Ashok Vajpayee, Om Thanvi, Purushottam Agrawal, Alpana Mishra, Niranjan Dev Verma. The session was moderated by Sushil Siddharth.
