Legendary Telugu actor and producer Akkineni Nageswara Rao breathed his last at 12.10 am on Wednesday morning. 91-year-old Nageswara Rao was battling from cancer for last few months.
His family made the announcement at 2 am. Eminent film personalities and politicians rushed to his house in Jubliee Hills to pay their respects.
The last rites would be performed tomorrow, and his body will be kept at his Annapurna studios, Hyderabad for people to pay respects.
Popularly known as ANR, made the news of his cancer public in October last year. He said he was diagnosed with cancer but has strong will and wants to live up to 100 years with the wishes of his fans.
About Akkineni Nageswara Rao:
A recipient of the Dada Saheb Phalke Award, Rao acted in over 250 films during his 75-year acting career, starring in many Telugu and Tamil films.
Akkineni Nageswara Rao was born on 20 September 1924 in Venkata Raghavapuram in Krishna district of coastal Andhra.
He made his debut in the Telugu film, Dharmapatni in 1941, after which he starred in prominent films like 'Maya Bazaar', 'Premabhishekam', 'Devadasu' and 'Laila Majnu'.
He was honored with India's second highest civilian award Padma Vibhushan in 2011. He was also honored with Padma Shri, Raghupathi Venkaiah Award and NTR National Award.
His other memorable movies include "Anarkali", "Premabhishekham", "Prema Nagar" and "Megha Sandesham".
ANR is survived by three daughters and two sons, one of whom is popular actor Nagarjuna.
