Despite all efforts made by the central bank and the government, the fall of rupee against dollar continued on Thursday as it slipped to 65.12 against a dollar at the inter-bank foreign exchange market, surpassing its previous record low of 64.55 hit Wednesday.

However, later it recovered a bit and was trading at 64.93 against a dollar at 10.42 a.m

The rupee, fierce by large dollar demands from banks and importers, has plunged to new lows for the fifth consecutive session, while the Sensex touched a high of 18,007.27 points and a low of 17,759.59 points during trade so far.

The wider 50-scrip Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading flat at 7.30 points or 0.14 percent up at 5,309.85 points.
