There are a lot of big movies yet to come in the next few months, including the likes of The Great Gatsby, Sightseers and Aftershock in the weekend starting May 10. However, here is a look at two of the finest movies of last weekend which has stormed box office.
While with a massive box office success Iron Man 3 is marching ahead of any other movie, the carefully written and meticulously directed The Iceman has caught the fancy of moviegoers with some finest performances. Here is just a quick and concise look of these two movies.
Iron Man 3:
To begin with, Marvel's Iron Man 3 is already released and doing all the box office talks on a huge opening weekend. Both critics and the audiences have given thumps up to this superhero flick.
Iron Man 3 is the final episode in the trilogy, and follows Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.)'s battle with terrorist "the Mandarin".
Directed by Shane Black, the film co-stars Gwyneth Paltrow, as Pepper Potts, and Sir Ben Kingsley as the Mandarin.
According to some of the top movie critics and avid movie lovers, Iron Man 3 has come out as the best in the franchise. The fact that it came as a follow up to The Avengers and not to Iron Man 2 had raised the bar all the more. It is indeed hilarious, innovative, classy, darker and more serious than the earlier two.
The Iceman:
Based on the true character of a notorious contract killer Richard Kuklinski, The Iceman is all for praise. Academy Award nominee Michael Shannon has delivered a fine performance under circumstances where he has to play a very normal family man and on the other hand a notorious mafia man who has killed more than 100 people.
The film covers the life of the mafia don Kuklinski as a series of fragmented episodes - from his early childhood to the day of his arrest. Even though one cannot compare it with the French language crime drama Mesrine - Killer Instinct / Public Enemy #1, The Iceman all the more is intense and dramatic.
Shannon, who last seen in the recently released Mud, is known for his unconventional acting style. While audience loves him as a ruthless killer his performance as a dotting family man is no less worthy to watch.
The Iceman explores two different sides of the actual man in the story. Interestingly, when finally arrested in 1986, neither his wife nor daughters have any clue about his real profession. In the end, while the movie is gravely dark and violent, it gives you a chance to observe the duality of humanity.
