New Delhi will celebrate a six days extravaganza 'Centenary Film Festival' to celebrate the glory of 100 years of Indian Cinema starting from April 25.
The festival will showcase a silent film, live orchestra and a play on Dadasaheb Phalke. In addition to that, showcase of classic and contemporary films, and a Satyajit Ray retrospective will be the key highlights of the event.
Centenary Film Festival is being organized by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and the event will be inaugurated with an exhibition titled 'Indian Cinema 100 (Celebrating a Century: An Audio Visual Voyage)', by Manish Tewari, Minister for Information and Broadcasting.
The inaugural ceremony will screen silent film Throw of Dice, with a live musical orchestra by maestro Nishat Khan and the festival will end on April 30 with a play on Dadasaheb Phalke by Aamir Raza Hussain.
Moreover, screening of films by legendary directors such as Bimal Roy, Guru Dutt, Shyam Benegal and Adoor Gopalakrishnan have also been scheduled suring the celebration.
On the occasion of 100 years of Indian Cinema, the festival will also pay tribute to some of the greatest actors of Indian Cinema like Balraj Sahni, Dev Anand, Shammi Kapoor and Rajesh Khanna by screeing their movies.
The Films Division of India will also showcase news reel documentaries, shorts, features and animation films on diverse subjects during the event. Other highlight includes the 'Cut-Uncut', a three-day workshop by members of the Central Board of Film Certification.
The festivals will be celebrated at different locations of the capital
including Siri Fort auditorium, Jamia Milia Islamia, Jawaharlal Nehru University
and India Habitat Center.
The centenary film festival celebrations will conclude in the National Film
Awards ceremony at Vigyan Bhavan on May 3.
