Washington, Nov 1 (ANI): A Lamborghini car salesman has reportedly broken the cross-country record of 31 hours and 4 minutes inspired by the 1981 classic film 'Cannonball Run' by clocking 28 hours, 50 minutes and about 30 seconds in a Mercedes-Benz.

The 1981 Burt Reynolds classic inspired US rally race drivers Alex Roy and David Maher's cross-country record of 31 hours and 4 minutes, which they set in a modified BMW M5 in 2006.

According to CNN, salesman Ed Bolian revealed that he was inspired by Cannonball writer Brock Yates, who won the first Cannonball in the early 1970s with a time of 35 hours and 53 minutes, to drive from New York to Los Angeles in a Mercedes CL55 AMG.

The report mentioned that Bolian researched cars, routes, moon phases, traffic patterns, equipment, gas mileage and modifications, adding that he started preparing for the race 18 months ago and added two 22-gallon tanks in the trunk of the car, which had a gas tank of only 23 gallons, to up his range to about 800 miles.

Bolian further said that the complete tune-up of the Benz cost him about 9,000 dollars, adding that he also fitted a police scanner, two GPS units, various chargers for smartphones and tablets and a bedpan in the car, along with snacks and iced coffee. (ANI)
