London, Apr 12 (ANI): English football legend Paul Gascoigne, who has been fighting a long battle with alcohol addiction, had broken down as he named his friends Wayne Rooney and Steven Gerrard as the lifesavers who helped pay for his rehabilitation, at an interview.
Sobbing as he thanked Rooney and Gerrard for saving his life, Gascoigne also named Gary Lineker and Jack Wilshere as the other footballers who had chipped in for the make-or-break treatment in Arizona, in the British show 'The Chatty Man' hosted by British comedian Alan Carr, the Mirror reports.
The Geordie legend, who was sipping milk as he spoke about his descent into alcohol addiction, further said that although his benefactors did not want to be named, he had decided to thank them publicly for stepping in when all hopes about his survival seemed to have gone down the drain.
Gascoigne further named British business magnate and media personality Alan Sugar and actor Chris Evans for helping him pay for his expensive rehabilitation clinic in Arizona, adding that anything left from the amount spent on his clinic will be donated to people needing help.
Despite nearly dying and weeks of intensive rehab, the recovering alcoholic, however, said that he still does not know whether he will stay sober, although he joked that he now has an extra incentive to keep away from drink after two interviews to appear on I'm A Celebrity, Get Me Out Of Here.
Chatty Man's drinks cabinet is a regular feature of his show, but all booze was removed from the London studio this week during Gascoigne's interview, the report added. (ANI)
