Jaspal Bhatti, the evergreen comedian of India passed away in a road mishap near Jalandhar on Wednesday while he was on the way to Nakodar from Bhatinda for the promotion of his upcoming movie 'Power Cut'.
The accident happened in the Shahkot area of Jalandhar, where Bhatti's car collided with a truck on Wednesday, says reports.
Bhatti, 57, was taken to a hospital in Jalandhar immediately after the accident where he was declared dead by the doctors.
His son Jasraj and actress Surilie Gautam were also injured in the accident and have been admitted to a hospital in Ludhiana.
Harpal Singh, Bhattti's close friend said Bhatti was coming back after promoting his movie.
"They were coming back. While coming back their vehicle collided with a tree. Doctors told us that he is no more and the other three have got injuries. He was a very good man. I haven't seen man like him ever in my life," said Harpal Singh.
"I had to go Bhatinda with him. One of our friends Mukesh Gautam called me and told me about this. I am still in shock and cannot believe this. He was a very good actor. He used to give social message to people in a comic way. I think no one can replace him, " he added.
Bhatti, who is regarded as one of the best comedians of India Television and cenema is best remembered for comedy shows like 'Flop Show' and 'Ulta Pulta'.
His other popular shows included Nonsense Private Limited, Mahaul Theek Hai (a satire on Punjab Police), Fanaa, Koi Mere Dil Se Poochhe, Jijaji and Comedy Ka King Kaun.
Recently, Bhatti and his wife were also seen shaking their legs in the television dance show Nach Baliye
Bhatti was born on March 3, 1955 in Amritsar into a Rajput Sikh family. He graduated from Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh, as an electrical engineer.
Bhatti is survived by his wife Savita Bhatti, a son, Jasraj Bhatti and daughter, Raabiya Bhatti.
