Rajkot celebrates 400 years of its existence with a carnival

Rajkot (Gujarat), May 3 (ANI): The Gujarat Government organised a colourful carnival to celebrate 400 years of Rajkot's existence.

Many events, including food festival, shopping festival and mini marathon, were organised to celebrate the occasion.

The shopping festival included participation from over a thousand retailers from garments, textiles, electronics and jewellery sector.

The organising committee members said that the theme of the carnival was to depict the culture, tradition, food and lifestyle of the city.

"This exhibition is not just for business, commerce or entertainment, but is a mix of all. It has focused on promoting trade and commerce, boost business and entertain the visitors. It is a celebration by the citizen, for the citizen and of the citizen. This was the theme of the carnival," said Prakash Dangar, member of the organising committee of the carnival.

Dangar added that the business was expected to double during the carnival, as compared to normal days and would promote the city as an economic hub.

As part of the carnival, a picture exhibition was also organised, which displayed photographs, showing how the city has developed in years.

"Rajkot has completed 400 years, so around 200 photographs have been put on display here, which throw light on the history and culture of Rajkot. These photographs tell us about the years old culture and heritage of the city and how has the city developed in the last 400 years," said Urvi Rajguru, a visitor at the carnival.

It was Sardhar who had established the city of Rajkot in 1607. The carnival would continue throughout May. (ANI)
