Zimbabwe probes alleged reports of worker abuse by Chinese firms

Harare, May 2 (ANI): The Zimbabwe Government has said that it is investigating reports of rampant abuses of workers by Chinese employers in the country.

Labour Minister Paurina Mupariwa said that a team of investigators has started visiting Chinese construction and mining companies to collect details of alleged abuses.

Labour Ministry officials claimed that workers had complained of physical abuse by Chinese managers, and added that they were earning below the legal minimum amount, News 24 reports.

The workers had also complained about extended working hours and negligence over health and safety conditions.ears of political and economic turmoil have seen an influx of Chinese businesses as part of Zimbabwe's 'Look East' policy. (ANI)
