PML-Q chief says army not keen on takeover

Lahore , Mon, 30 Apr 2012 ANI

Lahore, April 30(ANI): Pakistan Muslim League-Q President Senator Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said the army is so not keen to assume power amid the prevailing political situation in the country.

Chaudhry said the army was watching what politicians are doing to tackle the present crisis.

He called on the Punjab Government to hold local body elections at the earliest following Supreme Court directions in this regard.

"The popularity of Pakistan Muslim League (N) will be exposed in the local body polls," The Dawn quoted Chaudhary, as saying.

Chaudhary said that general elections would be held on time and those wanted early polls should better make preparations for the local government elections.

He said those demanding Pakistan Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani's resignation should wait for a detailed judgment of the Supreme Court in the court of contempt case, and added the apex court did not disqualify the premier.

Referring to Nawaz Sharif's threat to hold a 'long march' if Gilani continued as prime minister, he said those eager to hold the long march should know that it would prove a to be "short march" and would not even cross the Ravi Bridge. (ANI)
