New Delhi, Apr 21 (ANI): Congress party has urged its allies and opposition parties to support the reforms being brought in by the United Progressive Alliance (UPA)-led central government to spur the country's economic growth.
"There are bills which are before the standing committees some of them have come back to the government, some are still being examined by the standing committees and so therefore you require the support of the opposition specially in the Rajya Sabha to see them through," Congress spokesperson Manish Tiwari told media.
" If government would not have been committed to this process they would not have got these bills to the house, they would not have been before the standing committees for being scrutinised. So, we do expect and we do hope that on certain issues the opposition would also rise beyond parties and politics and measure upto the play to see that this process can be pushed forward," he added.
Tiwari's remarks comes in hours after comments of Chief Economic Advisor Kaushik Basu wherein he passed the buck of slowdown of major reforms onto the compulsion of the international situation and the compulsions that face a coalition government.
While addressing a meeting at Carnegie Endowment for International Peace in Washington, Basu had said that no major economic reforms could take place before the parliamentary elections in 2014.
He said that post-2014 elections, the country would witness rush of important reforms and after 2015 India would be one of the fastest growing economies in the world. (ANI)
