London, April 21 (IANS) Former Italian prime minister Silvio Berlusconi who is accused of having sex with 33 prostitutes has said he will hold his bunga bunga parties again if he could.
Berlusconi spoke out during a surprise appearance at his trial in Milan, where he is accused of paying Karima El Mahroug, then 17, for underage sex, The Sun reported Saturday.
The 75-year-old is charged with having sex with an underage prostitute, Moroccan Karima El-Mahroug, and then allegedly abusing his powers by getting police to release her when she was arrested for theft.
Berlusconi rejects all charges and El-Mahroug denies having sex with him. He is also a defendant in two other trials, for tax fraud and for violating official secrets.
He is said to have thrown the infamous parties in his villa's basement where he invited dozens of celebrities.
Accused of having sex with the prostitutes, Berlusconi Friday described the lavish dos as "burlesque shows".
"They were a lot less extreme than what you see on TV and at the theatre," he added.
Prosecutors allege hookers performed pole dances dressed as nuns and were paid in cash, jewellery and cars.
He also claimed the outfits women wore were not nuns' gowns but had been given to him by former Libyan ruler Muammar Gaddafi. He described the trial as a "witch hunt".
In Italy, the legal age of consent is 14. But paying for sex with someone under 18 is illegal and carries a jail sentence of up to three years.
