Government employees hold protest in Srinagar

Srinagar , Tue, 17 Apr 2012 ANI

Srinagar, Apr 17 (ANI): Scores of government employees in Jammu and Kashmir staged a protest in Srinagar on Tuesday, against the alleged non-fulfillment of state government's promise of extending the retirement age by two years and making all temporary employees permanent.

The protestors strongly condemned the government for playing dual role and threatened to intensify their agitation if their demands were not met.

"This protest is an expression of disillusionment of five lakh government employees with the (state) government. The state had signed a time-bound agreement with the joint consultative committee that it would increase the retirement age by two years and temporary employees in the state would be made permanent," said Abdul Qayoom Wani, chairman of the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) of employees.

The JCC comprised of various unions of the state employees. (ANI)
