Jaipur, Mon, 16 Apr 2012 ANI

Jaipur, Apr 16 (ANI): The Rajasthan Government has brought a strong legislation in the state assembly, which would help in fighting against corruption.

The Chief Minister and all officials from the judiciary have been brought under this legislation, which would be sent to President Pratibha Devisingh Patil within a week for approval.

The fourth grade employees have also been brought under the purview of this legislation, which after coming into effect would facilitate the Government to confiscate and attach any disproportionate property and asset earned illegally.

The opposition along with the ruling party admired the legislation in the State Assembly, which also has been welcomed by the people of the state. They have termed the move to be a milestone for checking corruption

In a meeting of the Anti Corruption Bureau officials held on February 2, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot spoke his determination to check corruption by saying that corruption could be curbed by reforming the system.

He said measures would be taken up to curb corruption.

Gehlot told the meeting that disproportionate properties and assets should be confiscated and used to further public interest. The funds should be used to open schools and hospitals.

A bill was brought in the State Cabinet meeting held on March 1 within a month after Gehlot first mentioned it in the ACB officials meeting. Provision was made in the bill to facilitate the Government to confiscate the disproportionate assets and properties and to use it in public interest.

The commitment of the State Government came to the fore when this bill was passed in the current session of the State Assembly.

During the discussion in the Assembly over the bill not only the ruling party side but also the opposition too appreciated the quick action of the State Government.

The disproportionate assets or properties will not be transferred or sold and such transfer or sale will be null and void and liable to be confiscated by the State Government. (ANI)
