Bologna beat Cagliari to move clear of relegation

Rome, April 13 (IANS) Bologna beat Cagliari 1-0 for a crucial win at home to move away from the relegation zone in the Italian Serie A.

Alessandro Diamanti scored the winner of the game Thursday in the 54th minute as Stefano Pioli's side moved six points clear of the relegation zone with six games to go in the season, Xinhua reported.

The Bologna striker curled his direct free-kick over the wall and sent it flying into the top right-hand corner.

Cagliari, who searched in vain for an equaliser, must now fear for their own future with just four points separating them from in-form Lecce in 18th.

The tension got too much for Pioli and was ordered to leave the ground for arguing with the referee, with his side struggling to contain a buoyant Cagliari.

Joaquin Larrivey sent a header against the crossbar as Cagliari threw men forward in search of an equaliser which they were unable to find as Bologna held on to all three points.
