UK Met Police to re-probe black bus driver's death amid racism allegations

London, Thu, 12 Apr 2012 ANI

London, Apr 12(ANI): The United Kingdom's Metropolitan Police will re- investigate the mysterious death of a black bus driver whose charred remains were discovered under a railway arch following racism claims in the first inquiry.

"The results of those reviews remain under consideration and detectives from the Homicide and Serious Crime Command are to reinvestigate. They retain an open mind about the circumstances of Mr David's death," The Telegraph quoted a Metropolitan Police spokesperson, as saying.

North London -based Kester David's family has launched legal action against Scotland Yard alleging that detectives had failed to investigate the case properly after a leaked report into the case revealed several errors in the original inquiry.

David's family claimed he may have been murdered because he was a police informant and have likened the alleged failings in the investigation case to that of Stephen Lawrence, the black teenager who was murdered in Eltham, South London in 1993.

An initial investigation had concluded that David had committed suicide but a coroner returned a verdict of open death and a forensic expert refused to rule out the possibility of a third party being involved in David's death.

According to an internal report, officers failed to check the CCTV footage and did not cross-examine DNA recovered from the scene. (ANI)
